Ð lasma-filled traveling wave tubes represent a new class of high power, wide bandwidth amplifiers. A dvantages of plasma-filled TWTs are due to a favorable transverse structure of the RF field interacting with the electron beam, to the ion compensation of the electron beam space charge, and to optimized longitudinal gradients of the plasma density and the magnetic field providing a high interaction efficiency.

A sealed tube with a hydrogen plasma in the RF interaction space and a high vacuum in the electron gun has been developed. This TWT combines a high efficiency (30%), wide bandwidth (25%) and high output power (15 kW).
