The IAP RAS gained the right on publishing literature in 1979. There were created the Editorial publishing council (EPC) headed by Director of the IAP RAS academician A. V.Gaponov-Grekhov, the Editorial publishing group (EPG), offset and bookbinder's shops; the publishing and printing activities were later licensed. EPC annually confirms the schedule of independent publications (without book houses); EPG meets the demands of the Institute, its scientific divisions, and the Scientific and education center (SEC) for publishing scientific, training methodic, routine-information and other materials.

More than 100 books of scientific proceedings and monographs on IAP topics, about 500 preprints and more than 300 author's summaries came out of press; abstracts of reports and scientific programs of conferences, symposia, meetings held in the IAP RAS, various methodic materials were regularly published during those years.

Of great demand among the published books are the memorial issues “Mikhail L'vovich Levin. Life, reminiscences, creativity” (1998) and M. A. Miller “REPORT ON THE LIVED LIFE: FOR FUN AND IN REAL EARNEST, dedicated to my own 80-th birthday” (2005).
